At dawn, their lunch boxes under their arms, workers join him to turn our plans intro reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Never too far from the site, we met up with John Sonnasinh, project manager for Rachel Julien, Pr\u00e9vel\u2019s partner on the Bassin du Havre project. The project is his baby, something he\u2019s watched grow from nothing to multiple phases, or as we call them, Piers. With his safety vest and helmet and the look of a man proud of what he has built, John took some time from his busy day to show us his playground and give us an update on the progress of work. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/john-devant-travaux.jpg\" alt=\"John-sonnasinh-chef-d-orchestre-des-bassins-du-havre\" class=\"wp-image-1003350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/john-devant-travaux.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/john-devant-travaux-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>His playground: the Bassins du Havre construction site.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s 5:30 in the morning and John Sonnasinh has long since arrived on the site. Until 6:30 am, he relishes the calm and has time to plan his day. At the stroke of 6:31am his ringing cell phone announces the beginning of the work day. Between meetings with different workers and supervising and mediating all issues, there isn\u2019t a moment of boredom.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/bois-arch%C3%A9ologique-bdh.jpg\" alt=\"Les-restants-de-l\u2019ancien-mur-datant-de-1875\" class=\"wp-image-1003352\"\/><figcaption>The remnants of an old wall dating back to 1875.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even though we made a face when John insisted we put on a helmet and vest, we quickly realized there are no exceptions, safety first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He began by showing us the remains of an old wooden wall dating back to 1875, according to the archaeological report. The wood will be recycled and used for new furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><em><strong>&#8220;We needed to clear some space to lay the foundations for the garage and of Pier 2b\u2019s underground.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sur-le-chantier-bdh.jpg\" alt=\"les-440-pieux-de-soutien-a-la-structure-du-Quai-3\" class=\"wp-image-1003354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sur-le-chantier-bdh.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sur-le-chantier-bdh-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>It will take 440 piles (foundation pillars) to support the structure of Pier 3.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/chantier-de-haut-bdh.jpg\" alt=\"chantier-de-construction-des-quais-des-bassis-du-havre\" class=\"wp-image-1003356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/chantier-de-haut-bdh.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/chantier-de-haut-bdh-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>We can already imagine the pool.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John then explained the teams were busy sinking the first basement\u2019s concrete slab, the same slab that will accommodate the common areas of Pier 2b. On the Pier 3 side, the Berlin walls holding up the land around the perimeter are 40% complete. These walls will allow them to excavate enough earth needed for the foundations without the sides caving in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><span style=\"font-size:18px;\"><em><strong>&#8220;Right now, we\u2019re out of the ground. We\u2019re presently at sidewalk level, meaning we are ready to mount the building structure, which is excellent news. In other words, within a year, we can start delivering units from the ground floor to the top floor.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From all the information we digested in such a short period of time, we were particularly surprised to learn that 440 piles would be required to support Pier 3, which when aligned, equal 12.5 km of embedded pillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is to close up the exterior of Pier 2b and lay the 1st underground slab for Pier 3 before winter arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/CHANTIER-BDH.jpg\" alt=\"Vue-sur-le-chantier-des-bassins-du-havre\" class=\"wp-image-1003358\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/CHANTIER-BDH.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/CHANTIER-BDH-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Les Bassins du Bassins du Havre, a project he has watched grow with the launch of each new Pier.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before his phone rings yet again, John tells us he is lucky to be part of this major project.
