The endless supply of restaurants represent almost every corner of the globe and fit all budgets, and of course, there are the pastry shops! <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-a32c907a-ed91-d594-a808-45093883f292\">Among them are two shops that have been around for several years and offer sweets from Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Be careful or you\u2019ll get hooked on pastries from Patisserie Wawel and Al-Baghdadi like we did. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-a32c907a-ed91-d594-a808-45093883f292\">P\u00e2tisserie Wawel: The Best <\/span>ponkis in Montreal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-a32c907a-ed91-d594-a808-45093883f292\">The Wawel pastry shop and bakery is a true Polish institution. The air is filled with so many sweet scents that you can feel just how much they love what they do and want to share their delicacies with the world. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/commerce1.jpg\" alt=\"patisserie-wawel-shaughnessy-montreal\" class=\"wp-image-1003276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/commerce1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/commerce1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>Located on St. Marc Street, P\u00e2tisserie Wawel serves typical Polish delights.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-a32c907a-ed91-d594-a808-45093883f292\">Peter Sowa, whose family owns two bakeries in Poland, has pastries running through his veins. In 1984, Sowa, then 24, founded Wawel and has been growing it ever since. There are now several branches in Montreal, one on Ontario Street, one at the Jean-Talon Market and one on Saint-Marc Street, which we visited. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-a32c907a-ed91-d594-a808-45093883f292\">We had the opportunity to discover several Polish specialties, but if you were to try only one, definitely go for the <\/span>ponkis, delicious fried donuts stuffed with pastry cream, apricots or plum. We particularly liked their light, soft dough and homemade jam flavors!<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image image\" style=\"--ratio:66.6666666667%\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/ponki.jpg\" alt=\"ponki-wawel-shaughnessy-prevel-blogue\" class=\"wp-image-1003278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/ponki.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.prevel.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/blog\/ponki-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption>P\u00e2tisserie Wawel\u2019s reputation was built on their ponkis, a well-known and delicious Polish doughnut.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span id=\"docs-internal-guid-a32c907a-ed91-d594-a808-45093883f292\">For a complete gourmet tour, taste their cherry turnovers. So tasty!
